Seven Reasons Why Young People Should Go To VBS
Was reading this last night in one of the vintage workbooks I have. It lists seven reasons why young people should attend Vacation Bible School.
1. Provides more time for Christian Teaching than a whole year of Sunday School. (Found this very interesting!)
2. Win to Christ those who have not already accepted Him as Lord and Savior.
3. Result in lives dedicated to His service.
4. Increase knowledge of God's word as authority for life.
5. Widen the fellowship scope through experiences in Christian living.
6. Initiate or strengthen handcraft abilities.
7. Make vacations lastingly meaningful.

Solomon's Temple
Pinterest is such a great place for ideas! This Sunday School idea by Hands On Bible Teacher is quick, easy and helps the environment! The image below is the one she used to make a 3-D Solomon's Temple using packaging supplies.
So far I haven't come across any packaing that looks like this, but I'm sure somewhere along the way someone will purchase something with this kind of packaging.
Last night when my brother came home from work he had milkshakes for everyone! Yum! The cup holder they had put the milkshakes in was similar

to this. Even though it doesn't scream "Solomon's Temple" I decided to go on ahead and paint it gold just to keep the idea on my mind and be on the lookout for something like this. This might end up being used as a desert scene or something.

I used #660 Folk Art Metallic Pure Gold Paint and a paint brush from the dollar store that I had.

There's A Better Way To Take Notes
This isn't Sunday School related, but it made me chuckle. I received the InTouch magazine from Charles Stanley the other day and this was inside the cover:
The Post-It notes and scrap pieces of paper with prayers and scriptures is me! I keep a unopened lunch sized paper bag inside my Bible bag to keep them together. And I have two prayer journals. I suppose I should start a journal to keep all my little notes and scriptures together.

Bulletin Boards
Currently I'm working on the very first bulletin board graphics for the Sunday School class! The theme is Creation. I found a really cute one on Pinterest I'm using as the pattern. Also on Pinterest I saw where someone pinned the awesome idea of using plastic tablecloths as the backgrounds for bulletin boards. I have a couple different colors of these already. They will last longer and look good as the background.
Also, I had these vintage photos from the late 1960's of some bulletin boards. These are more for young adults, but it may help with some layout ideas.

Budget - Zero Dollars!?
It's easy to go overboard on spending money, especially when you need pretty much everything. There are many inexpensive places like the Dollar Tree, dollar bins at Michael's and Target, Oriental Trading, etc. I want to start with a very small budget- ZERO dollars!
Since I craft a lot there are all sorts supplies and other items that can be utilized as Sunday School material! Once I've gone through and used up what I already have then I will make a budget plan and buy some things.
The first thing I did the other night was bake some cookies (easy to think that way!) and sort through the Sunday School booklets I posted in the last post. I kept out all the booklets for ages birth - sixth grade. And put the ones for older children/young adults away for now. I want to focus on children activities first. After I sorted those I got out my childhood Bibles.

Then I went through some of my craft books and stencils to see what could be used for church. You can find all sorts of things in your own home that will work for Sunday School!
Keeping your mind on Sunday School when cleaning your house you'd be surprised at how many things you already have that is perfect for projects and how creative you can get!
This weekend will be a busy one, but I've been tracing some patterns out already today.
Happy Father's Day!

Thrifted Sunday School Books
So far I've found a few neat ideas on Pinterest and found a couple neat blogs. I'm sure I'll find more along the way! The other day I was brainstorming (this can be dangerous! lol) and something popped into my mind. I had forgotten several years ago I was in a local thrift store and found lots vintage Sunday School booklets for teachers. I had boxed them up. Just thought they couple be useful someday and the price was right ($3.00 for all this!)...
By the time the church starts I'm hoping to have at least one activity for each of the major characters in the Bible.
Most of these are from the late 1960's.
There are books for the children (and teens/young adults), the teacher, and the parents here.
Can't wait to get started planning and making things!

Welcome! The Beginnings of a Blog and a Sunday School Class!
Hi! Welcome to my blog! My name is April and I decided to start a blog to sort of archive our journey of starting a church with the emphasis on Sunday School classes. My brother is going to college to become a Preacher. It will be another year or so before he begins.
About short while ago the Lord put it on my heart to begin preparing Sunday School class ideas for children! I find this to be a big responsibility! Whether there is only one child or one hundred children in the class I want them to have a fun and rememberable time and learn all about the Bible in a way that is easy to understand. And I want to learn and grow more along with the class! I've been praying about it and will continue to do so every step of the way. I don't have any children of my own, so I'm starting pretty much from stratch. I want to make sure I have plenty of ideas on hand before he actually starts his church.
Teaching children about the Jesus and the Bible is a wonderful thing! I hope to be able to encourage them in their walk with the Lord. Even if they stop going to church or stray when they get older I pray they will look back and remember what they learned way back in Sunday School and help them turn to the Lord.
